JERUSALEM, ISRAEL (15 / APR / 2015) . Israel remembers Holocaust victims. Israel today begins the celebration of the National Day in memory of Holocaust victims institutional events to go over one of the darkest episodes in the history of mankind.
With special emphasis on the seven decades since the end of World War II, the anniversary is marked by an official ceremony held today in Warsaw Ghetto Square Museum Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem, with the participation of more higher authorities.
From this evening and for 24 hours establishments and leisure centers will be closed for a day in special study activities take place in schools and the media are turning in recall and disclose Holocaust-related episodes.
The day is extended to Thursday, when for two minutes the wail of air raid sirens paralyze the country in the morning to save tribute to the victims of Nazism. Immediately after institutional acts continue both in Yad Vashem, as in the Israeli parliament (Knesset), where the names of the victims will be read.
Unlike the international community, which makes the January 27, the day of the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp, in Israel the Holocaust is commemorated according to the Hebrew calendar one week before the day of its independence, which was produced according the Gregorian May 14, 1948.
On the eve of Memorial Day a report by the Foundation for the Welfare of Holocaust noted that 25 percent of the 189,000 survivors in Israel live in poverty and can not access medicines and some medical services.
