I was excited to discover last drone DJI in the Phantom 4! After the surprise of the new design and its new finish, I went to test the behavior of the DJI Phantom 4 flight. And I came back delighted! With its new features, but also technical features supercharged compared to its big brother the DJI Phantom 3,4 Phantom has it all. Barely out of his new reinforced polystyrene storage bag, the Phantom DJI 4 already gives you an impression of robustness and reliability. For transportation easier and safer, the backpack DJI Phantom 4 will be your best ally. Its optimized design with new LED incorporated under the engines, anti-collision system at the top of the landing gear and nacelle with a hidden camera in the body of the drone are really attractive. Fix your 9450S propellers of the same size as those of the Phantom 3, but with the new quick-release system providing enhanced security and ease of use! A single press and a quarter turn allow you to set your correct propeller is childish!

Like the DJI Phantom 3, you need to connect your radio to your tablet or smartphone via a cable, launch the app DJI GO then begin the process of acquiring GPS. This simple procedure is recommended to obtain optimal GPS signal (described in the Quick-Start Manual available in many language of Europe countries when buying drone).
From that point, your drone is ready to take off, now you must activate the motors lowering your two joysticks down and inside your radio. The drone is waiting for your first push to take off! Once airborne, the Phantom 4 is well stabilized, it is impressive, even when the wind blows, your drone will not move (or very little).
The Vision Positioning system that is already found on the DJI Phantom 3 sees its capacity increase of 300%, since it is effective from 10 meters. Now an additional team this camera system, bringing the Vision technology Positioning with two cameras and two sonar for more secure operations especially indoors.

You find all the smart features found on the Phantom 3 as the Return To Home (RTH), Race Lock Home Lock, Waypoints, Follow-Me but also two new Active Track and Tap to Fly that I detail.
For more sports flights, DJI provides a fast track to reach speeds up to 72km / h! To use this mode, you simply move the switch to S mode, and there, your drone turns into a real race car! Incredible, your DJI Phantom 4 leans forward and accelerates from bluffing way! In this mode, you will always be assisted by the GPS but you will not have the anti-collision system. I was captivated by this mode which really offers impressive acceleration with an inclination of drone allowing it to take up to speed!
Testing the function of ActiveTrack DJI Phantom 4
This video tracking function allows you to automatically follow a person walking for example. This system requires no connection with the subject followed the freeing totally that person to the radio or a GPS chip for example. The unmanned drone obviously retains control over the drone and can regain control or interrupt at any time subject tracking.
In my tests, the ActiveTrack function was inconclusive for tracking a mountain biker, who was lost in a too fast acceleration. I therefore believe that this function is for the moment reserved for the monitoring of a journalist for example. In this case, monitoring is very effective although there are several people in front of the DJI Phantom 4. Less movements are abrupt and better the follow up!
Testing the function of TapFly DJI Phantom 4
To give a virtual target your drone, the TapFly function merely to press your video back to select the area in which should make your Phantom 4. The drone hand automatically to the location requested by adapting its speed and its altitude while avoiding obviously obstacles.
Collision camera system DJI Phantom 4
With its two front cameras at the top of the landing gear, the DJI Phantom 4 is able to detect obstacles in front of you. This results in a diagram, similar to what I find in the back of cars equipped with radar system to warn you of the distance and the potential danger. In addition to this visual information, the drone starts to beep to alert you.
And that's not all! The drone will slow itself to avoid the collision. If, as in my test, you get close to a building then the drone stops short even if you keep the joystick to move forward. Obviously this feature has limitations, and in my test the DJI Phantom 4 failed to detect a barbed wire. DJI explains that the obstacle must be more than 500px on your image. This system is assistance but is not foolproof, it will therefore necessarily remain master of his drone.
4S battery DJI Phantom 4
During my various tests I compared the autonomy of the new 5350mAh battery 4S Phantom 4 opposite that of the DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, and although I have not achieved self-announced 28 minutes, I approached 25 minutes, keeping a little reserve before landing. The difference with the DJI Phantom 3 is really enjoyable to shoot without worrying about the state of its battery.
